Get to know Ben Suddaby
In the short year since I stepped up to serve as president, our union has seen tremendous growth. I’d like to continue to serve as president, and for us to keep focusing on what led to this growth: Solidarity. When working class people stand together, and fight for each other, we all do better.
As president that means taking time off to go before the City Council and Commissioners Court to advocate for better pay and benefits, working conditions, and respect. It means spending personal time and resources to stand with the broader labor movement at their strikes, actions, and rallies; here in Austin, across Texas, and in D.C. representing AFSCME 1624. Most importantly, it means listening to our membership and working together as a union to fight for their goals.
Union activity in this country is experiencing an upsurge. We need to capitalize on this momentum. As public employees in Texas we face unique challenges. Building our strength by increasing member participation in our union puts us in a stronger position to face these challenges. I ask that you vote Ben for president, so that we can continue this work together.
