A proud AFSCME member since I joined the City of Austin in June 2017, I was appointed to the executive board in April 2023. I have always prioritized attendending board and union meetings. My professional journey spans roles at Austin Public Health, the merged Transportation Public Works, and my current post in Communications and Technology Management.
My upbringing, shaped by my single mother's union job, showcased the profound impact of organized labor on our quality of life. Witnessing workers strategically vote on countering workplace struggles was my first exposure to democratic decision-making.
Bringing over 17 years of nonprofit executive board experience and a focus on serving refugees and immigrants, I am dedicated to the executive board's mission. The ongoing battle for telework underscores persistent challenges, emphasizing the need for AFSCME 1624 to prioritize raising standards for all city and county workers, particularly frontline worker safety.
The 2022 campaign securing a $20 per hour minimum wage exemplifies the union's commitment to improving conditions. I believe AFSCME 1624 can contribute innovative solutions to the city and county workforce's challenges, forging a path toward a better future for all workers.
